Genesis 2:15-17, 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

Genesis 2:15-17

15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Key Points:

  • The Lord commanded the man “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:15-17

  • Just as fruit begins to die as soon as it is plucked from the tree so do we when we cease to eat from the tree of life.

  • We have to stay conscious not to get so consumed in the loud noises of worldly duality that we can’t hear the whispers of God’s love.

  • In and of themselves our hands are not good or evil. What matters is the energy by which we use them. They can be used to steal or heal.

  • Just as a rose exudes more fragrance underneath pressure, the Lord’s fragrance is released in the experiences of challenges.

  • The heart relies upon unconditional love and knows, yet cannot tell. The mind relies on the intellect between good and evil and tells but does not know.

  • Life is meant to learn from one another while we surrender the mind into the heart. In other words, the whole business of love is to drown in the sea, to feel lost and to learn to swim in the ocean of being.

  • The person eating from the tree of good and evil has a  difficult time sharing with the one eating from the tree of life. For the map of the world that guides the mind is useless to a fish in the sea.

  • Love is like a tree and those eating from the tree of life are its shade bringing freshness and respite from the heat of life.
