Spring into Your New Day!

Luke 9:59-62, John 14:22-27, 2 Timothy 1:7

Luke 9:59-62

59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”

62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

John 14:22-27

22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

2 Timothy 1:7

7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Key Points:

  • Those chosen to be disciples were fishing for fish at one moment and fishing for men the next. Just as midnight preceeds dawn and death a resurrection so does our calling prceed our new day.

  • Your faith journey is going to require you to come to terms with your past and your present choices.

  • As you embrace your calling to serve others you cannot let the weight of our past keep you from being able to spring into God’s new day.

  • A mistake which makes us humble is much better than an achievement that makes us arrogant.

  • God’s grace is sufficient to cover a multitude of sins. Nothing in our background can keep us from having God’s love.

  • The past does not have a forwarding address (Shante Bishop)

  • The teacher comes so that others might see the river for themselves and spring into their new day. This is all done to the glory of God.

  • Ministry is not a spectator sport and it is time we spring into our new day. As you spring, praise the Lord in advance for growth and fulfillment of His purpose through you.

  • God has not given us a spirit of fear but power, love and self-discipline.
